This Week in Room 17

Welcome!

Happy New Year and welcome back to school.  I hope everyone enjoyed their vacation and are well-rested and ready to return to our fun year of learning!

This week in Langauge Arts we will be doing our theme assessment for Unit 2.  We will be taking tests on reading comprehension, writing, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar.  We will begin our next unit in our Treasures anthology on Friday.  It will be a fun unit about Self Expression (think writing and art).

This week in Math, we will begin working on Topic 11: Patterns.  We will learn how to look for patterns in numbers, find a rule to explain the pattern, and then use the rule to extend the pattern.  Our topic test will be on Monday, Jan. 17.  Please continue to work with your children on their times tables until they have memorized them.  Knowing your times tables is the key to being successful in middle school and high school math.  Multiplication activities are online on the Envision Math website.  You can access the website at http://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com.  Another great website for multiplication games is CoolMath.com.  You can also reach these websites from the Useful Links section of this website.

We will soon begin a new program to get ready for the California Standards Test (CST) called Buckle Down.  We will be talking about our CST scores in class and learning tips and strategies for how to raise our scores when we take the 3rd grade test in May.

Have a great week!
